The Dispossessed - Ursula K. LeGuin

This is deemed classic literate science fiction... and I've finally finished it, er, read it.

I'm not sure I can put into words just what I learned from this book. Sure, it's mildly entertaining, but I never bought into the premise that Annares and the society there would actually ever form. Okay, so call it a literary device. This is really LeGuin trying, at length, to be Ayn Rand... at least a little in scope and scale. Parts of the book are excellent, overall it's just barely entertaining/worth reading.

Here's the spoiler - this book and its themes serve to illustrate how freedom is an illusion because we are social animals, subservient to the group (okay, not rand-like at all.) If you believe me, skip the book and read something else.
